Fresh at Primes!

Hey folks!

Primes Market in Marshalltown is restocked with fresh, delicious and healthful oyster mushrooms for all your favourite summer ‘shroom dishes!

Don’t forget mushrooms for the grill (a basket does the trick!), summer veggie stir-fries, sunny brunches, and the occasional thunderstorm mushroom chowders and soups! Add umami to your gravies, ramp up that Friday pizza dinner, or make a lush meal out of some simple garlicky & herb sautéed mushrooms on a nice piece of artisanal toast!

We are fungi, hear us ROAR! Lion’s Mane Tincture Now Available!

Hey folks!

The end of the 2020 Summer Market season is upon us already! May as well go out with a bang, right?

Just in time to celebrate the Autumn’s bounty, we’re pleased to announce the launch of our NEW Lion’s Mane tincture, made with homegrown health-promoting mushrooms!

As some of you may already know, Lion’s Mane (and its near-identical relatives in the family Hericium spp.) mushrooms have many applications in traditional medicines.

Historically remarked for benefits relating to mental function, memory, clarity, and meditation, these fungi are currently being investigated for the ways they may influence brain health through neuroprotection and neurogenesis (see select citations below for a taste of the research).

Although it’s part of the local ecology in this neck of the woods, one of the only times we’ve found the Bear’s Head growing in the wild was about five years ago!

Endeavoring as always to make the power and potency of mushrooms more available to our community, we wanted to bring Hericium species to the people. Following the success of our cultivation trials in 2019-2020, we are now happy to offer dual-extracted Lion’s Mane tincture in a 50ml bottle.

Tinctures are a great way to preserve and make daily use of these mushrooms year-round as part of your holistic health practice. For more info, click over to our page on Mushrooms for Health.

For fresh, locally-grown Oyster Mushrooms, dual-extracted Chaga (while supplies last!), Turkey Tail, Reishi, and Lion’s Mane mushroom tinctures, and our delicious Rainy Day Soup Mix, visit us at the Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market this Saturday!

Where: Annapolis Royal, Nova Scotia

When: Saturday, October 10 2020, 9am-1pm (Rain or Shine)

Please note that this is likely to be our last public market of the year. If you wish to purchase Fundy Spores products throughout the off-season, including for holiday gifts or seasonal meals, Contact Us directly to learn about shipping options.

The World is Your Oyster (Mushroom)

Hey Folks!

Harvest Alert! Blue and Golden Oyster mushrooms will be available at the Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market this Saturday, Sept 12: don’t miss out!

If you’re coming in from out of town, or maybe this is one of your last weekends here before heading ‘back to “away”‘, or perhaps you’re getting the pantry stocked up for a rainy day, consider picking up some extras: perfect for dehydrating* or cooking into that favorite hearty soup or stew you’re canning!

Now’s also a good time to check out our selection of health-promoting mushroom tinctures for symptom-targeted or maintenance use: please note Chaga tinctures are in limited supply, and will not be restocked (read about our commitment to sustainable wildcrafting here). We are working on a new addition to the tincture line-up to support you in your health journey, so stay connected to make sure you get all the info when that becomes available!

See you at the Market!

Market Season Begins Tomorrow!

Hey folks!

It’s finally time for the Summer 2018 Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market to begin! Come by and stock up on your edible and health-promoting mushrooms and tinctures, grab a cup of hot chaga tea, and peruse our selection of mushroom art and zines.

Add mush love to your daily routine!

We’ll be in our regular spot, in the Market Square right by Sissiboo Coffee — look for the big black banner with our groovy logo (designed by fabulous artist LeyAnn Meau)

Due to the support of some very excellent people, we are expanding our operation this year and will have fresh mushrooms at the market regularly as soon as we can — a big shout out and THANKS! to those who have helped make that possible! Keep your eyes on the blog and/or sign up for our email list for announcements about the availability of new products.

Thanks also to Ordinary Family Food & Life for promoting our 2018 Community of ‘Spore’ters campaign in their monthly newsletter — if you believe like we do in good-quality food as a key part of the foundation for holistic wellness, make sure to check them out!

See you at the Market (every Saturday from now until October, 8am-1pm in Annapolis Royal).

P.S. If you’re a local maker, grower, artist, musician, etc, be sure to respond to this call out for participants: let’s have a Bear River Market this summer!

Come on out of hibernation!

Hey everyone!

Spring’s around the corner and all the telltale signs are there — trees are budding, birds are returning, and folks are itching to get out and get those gardens growing!

We’re stoked to be rejoining enthusiastic gardeners, homesteaders, and herbcrafters at the 2016 Seedy Saturday hosted by the Festival Clare‐té, on campus at the Université Sainte-Anne.

When: April 2nd 2016, 1-4:30pm

Where: Rendez-Vous de la Baie, 23 Lighthouse Rd, Pointe-de‐l’Église

Curious about the life cycle and delicious flavour of natural, log-grown Shiitake mushrooms? Consider picking up one of our fabulous grow-your-own mushroom logs, which will be freshly-innoculated and ready to take home and add to your living landscape.

Chasing away the winter blues, or looking to re-up your energy for all the spring projects you’ve been eagerly waiting to get started? No better time to add a health-promoting mushroom tincture to your self-care routine: we’ll have Reishi, Turkey Tail, and Chaga extractions available for a full-complement of immune-supporting, inflammation-reducing, and energy-boosting goodness.

What are folks saying about these tinctures? It’s hard not to be thrilled by this kind of feedback (this customer is using the Turkey Tail tincture to deal with seasonal allergies):

“I was just so excited and relieved to have found something that works!! a full night sleep no need to get up and drain my sinuses (YUCK). You have no idea what amount of medicines, [prescribed] and over the counter I have sprayed my nose with over the years. I was so relieved to find this Magical Mushroom cure!!!”

’nuff said, right?

Looking forward to seeing y’all at this excellent event, and counting the days until the Annapolis Royal Farmers and Traders Market starts up again for Summer!

Take care, until next time,

– the folks at Fundy Spores

Lookout Wolfville!

Hey All!

Get your mycology on at the Wolfville Farmer’s Market this weekend — we’ll be there sharing a table with the lovely soapmistress of Nova Scotia Soapworks Studio (if you’re lucky, they’ll have some fabulous Chaga infused soap in stock, just one in their amazing line of herbal-blended bath bars!)!

This will be our first time with a table at this market, so come check us out (and tell your friends!) — as we move indoors for the colder weather, perhaps a wild mushroom tincture is just the thing to help strengthen your immune system against seasonal infections and winter stress! Looking for a gift for a friend (or want to treat yo’self)? A handmade hemp necklace with a swirly one-of-a-kind mushroom charm might be just the thing!

Mushrooming has been completely bonkers this season: we found a Chanterelle on Oct 30 (whaaa?!?), have spotted some gorgeous Late Autumn Oysters (Panellus serotinus — they only pop out after a frost!) and this week, some tasty-looking Field Mushrooms (Agaricus campestris) appeared on a friend’s lawn!

Ever-exciting and constantly surprising,  magnificent mushrooms are all around us —  though there’s plenty to see on the forest floor, let this bodacious Bear’s Head Tooth remind you to look up every once in a while!
